Hogan wins the Rumble and goes after the flag
Hogan won the match and was named number-one contender to Sgt. Slaughter's title, in a feud staged against the Gulf War — Slaughter had returned as an Iraqi sympathiser. The Rumble win was not itself the mechanism: the winner did not automatically earn a WrestleMania title shot until 1993.
